After the great success of 1998 with «fucking amal", Lukas Moodysson continued in the XXI century with a much harsher cinema and critical of society.
In the year 2000 he filmed "Together" a dramatic comedy about a hippie commune of the 70s seen from the point of view of a child who integrates it. The tape participated in the Gijon Film Festival with a great reception, receiving the awards for best director, best screenplay, best actor for Michael Nyqvist and the Special Prize of the Young Jury.
Two years later, he shoots what is probably his best film, "Lilja 4-ever", a harsh drama about the white slave trade, prostitution, drugs and misery. Set in a city in the former Soviet Union, the film narrates the life on the streets of innocent abandoned and helpless children and adolescents. The film obtained the Guldbagge Awards for best film, best director, best screenplay, best actress for Oksana Akinshina and best photography, and again she was present at the Gijon Film Festival where she received the awards for best film and best actress.
In 2003 he shot with Stefan Jarl the documentary "Terrorister - en film om dom dömda" about those sentenced to prison for attending the Göteborg anti-globalization demonstration.
