Trailer of the film "Tulpan", award for best film at the 2008 Montreal Film Festival

The film "Tulpan" is Sergey Dvortsevoy's debut feature and, despite winning several awards at various festivals, it took two years to see it in cinemas in our country.

"Tulpan" tells the story of young Asa who, after completing his military service in the army, returns to his birthplace in the rugged steppe of Kazakhstan. Her older sister and her husband live there, dedicated to the only possible occupation in that place; flocks of sheep. From them he learns that if he wants to dedicate himself to cattle, and have his own livestock, he is going to have to find a woman.

The problem is that single girls are rare in the area. Tulpan, the daughter of another herding family, appears to be the only possible candidate, but she has other plans. He wants to leave the field to study and finds the perfect excuse to reject Asa in front of his parents: he has very big ears.
But Asa is not going to give up so easily. With the help of his friend Boni, he will endeavor to show everyone that he can be a good shepherd and the best suitor for Tulpan.
