La movie A Serious Man is set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, A Single Man is the story of George Falconer (Colin Firth), a 52-year-old British university professor who struggles to find meaning in his life after the death of her partner, Jim (Matthew Goode). George recalls the past and fails to see his future as we follow him through a single day, in which a series of events and encounters ultimately lead him to decide whether life has meaning after Jim. George is comforted by his closest friend, Charley (Julianne Moore), a 48-year-old beauty who also struggles with her own doubts about the future. A young student, Kenny (Nicholas Hoult), who is trying to accept his true nature, stalks George because he sees a kindred spirit in him. A Single Man is a romantic story about interrupted love, about the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately about the importance of life's seemingly insignificant moments.
