Ben Stiller's latest film, originally to be called "Neighborhood Watch," of which we saw the first advance, will be promoted with another title to avoid suspicions in the United States, where the death of an unarmed young man at the hands of a volunteer vigilante has generated a strong controversy in the northern country. On February 26, George Zimmerman, a volunteer neighborhood watchdog, shot and killed black teenager Trayvon Martin in Florida, and since then there have been demonstrations and protests over his initial release. While the comedy is about an alien invasion and has nothing to do with recent tragic events in Florida, the 20 Century Fox studio has modified the title to avoid any misinterpretation, they explained.
In the story, Stiller's character moves out of town from the city and finds suburban life drab and emotionless. To entertain himself, he joins the citizen surveillance patrols that are made up of bored married men like himself.
But on this journey, during their nights of surveillance, they find an invasion strategy by aliens ...
The film is directed by Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod, SNL) based on a script by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg and is scheduled for release on July 27, 2012.
