The Platinum Awards are born

Ibero-America will have its own Oscar awards, or at least it is the objective of the Platinum Awards, which encompass the audiovisual industry of 22 countries. These awards will be held for the first time in Panama on April 5 thanks to the initiative of producers from both Spain and all of Latin America.

Enrique Cerezo, president of the producers association, EGEDA, was the first to refer to this comparison between the two awards, stating that this initiative is jointly promoted by the Ibero-American Federation of Producers FIPCA.

As happened in May 1927 when a small number of Hollywood directors and producers met at the Ambassador Hotel in the city of Los Angeles to create the Oscars, on November 28 a group of producers met on the occasion of the Luis Buñuel Award, they devised the birth of these Platinum Awards.

Behind this idea was a previous diagnosis; With a balance of some 700 films per year and as announced by Ignacio Rey, vice president of FIPCA, it was very clear that the problem of Ibero-American cinema did not lie in production but in distribution and marketing. Will they manage to shade the Oscars?
