Cinema and the Internet more united than ever

Spike Lee

The director and actor Spike Lee (The last night, Malcom X), brought good news today to the Venice Film Festival, when it presented a new film festival to be held on the Internet. The festival that will be named babelgum, which is the internet platform that will carry it out, will be aimed at any professional who wants to participate and will award prizes of 20.000 euros each to the different categories: For the best film (which may not exceed 45 minutes in duration), for the best short film (with a duration of less than 20 minutes), for the best documentary, for the best social or environmental work and for the best advertisement.

The films will be posted on the web and may be viewed for free during the Festival, which will consist of four phases: In the first, which lasts until February next year, the films are presented. In the second, the jury, made up of Internet users, will vote for the best works. In the third phase, three finalists will be chosen and, to conclude, in the fourth phase it will be Spike Lee who names the winners.

They estimate that no more and no less than 2000 films will participate, so, without a doubt, it will be a good way to open the way for young filmmakers who are struggling to find their place in that great and difficult world of cinema.
