Sitges 2014: Review of "Cub" by Jonas Govaerts

Cub

In his feature film debut, Jonas Govaerts does not come off badly at all, and although «Cub»It does not have moments of brilliance, it holds the tension quite well.

The film uses many clichés of the genre, such as that of the boys who enter a dangerous place despite the warnings, which makes it one more film on the subject.

But not being original does not make a tape bad, the biggest problem is the fdischarge of character motivations, not only of the protagonist but also of those around him and especially of those who attack them.

El twist abuse towards the end of the film it does not help much, although it does not allow the rhythm of a respite to the viewer to disconnect from the film.

Ultimately, Jonas govaerts Tension works very well from the first moment and it increases as the film progresses, a shame about a script and, especially, a work on the characters that it does not accompany and that make "Cub" one more slasher that will not happen to the history of Sitges Festival and that will be forgotten once this edition of the Catalan contest ends.

Rating: 5 / 10
