Robin Thicke wins sexist of the year award for 'Blurred Lines'

An American coalition of feminist groups elected the controversial Robin Thicke, known for the hit 'Blurred Lines', as the most sexist character of the year. The singer was the one who led an annual survey carried out by the association called End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAWC), and that brings together more than fifty groups that fight for the rights of women in the United States.

EVAWC representative Sarah Green commented sarcastically on Thicke's choice: “Our sincerest congratulations to our worthy winner, Robin Thicke, who through his efforts has come to create a sexist trend this year in which encourages the use of women as sexual objects to promote the most mediocre pop ". Green also added: "Sexism can be something of rigor in some 'creative' sectors of the music industry, but already in the XNUMXst century this should be changing".

As a prize of the EVAWC selection, Thicke will receive a valid iTunes gift voucher to download Aretha Franklin's mythical classic 'Respect'. In its press release EVAWC justified its choice of the singer taking into account the tone of the lyrics of the song 'Blurred Lines', added to the controversial video, and stressed that Thicke's controversial statements in GQ magazine were enough for this award. Thicke gave his opinion on GQ a few months ago: "People say to me 'don't you think this is degrading to women?' And I answer them: 'Of course it is. But what pleasure does it produce? ' I haven't had a chance to feel this before. '”.
