Throughout their discography, Purple Rain became one of Prince's most iconic albums, and the last week marked the 30th anniversary of its release. To commemorate this occasion, the famous singer decided to hold a surprise concert in Paisley Park (Minneapolis, USA), an event that featured the participation of Apollonia Kotero, one of the prominent figures who participated in the legendary album.

Prince, Apollonia and the girl group 3rdEyeGirl performed a total of eight songs from the album together at this private concert. The next day Prince uploaded to YouTube a fragment of almost ten minutes of audio from the concert. It transpired that a luxury anniversary edition of the consecrated album is expected to be released by the end of the year.

Purple Rain was released in the US on June 25, 1984, and immediately climbed the charts around the world, earning 13 platinum records in the US and managing to sell. about 20 million copies around the planet.
