The Ransom of Glory

After standing out in important competitions such as the Cannes Festival, the Montreal Festival or the Gijón Festival, Xavier Beauvois will be for the first time at the Venice Film Festival with his new film «The Ransom of Glory«.

The French director made his debut at the Montreal Festival in 1991 with «North part«, A film that won the Fipresci Prize and the Ecumenical Jury Prize.

His next film «N'oublie pas that you are going to die»He won the Jean Vigo Prize and the Jury Prize at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Grand Jury Prize at the Gijón Festival that same year.

Xavier Beauvois' last foray into the European pageant scene was once again at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2010 he attended the French competition with «men and gods«, A film that won the Grand Jury Prize.

Now four years later he goes to the Venice Film Festival with the intention of winning the Golden Lion with "La rançon de la gloire", a film set in a small Swiss town at the end of the 70s that tells the story of Eddy Ricaart who, after leaving prison, stays at his friend's house Osman Bricha in exchange for taking care of his young daughter when the mother has to go for check-ups at the hospital. When on television they announce the death of Charles Chaplin, the lack of money makes them have an idea, to steal the coffin to ask the family for a ransom.

They star in the film Poelvoorde y Chiara Mastroianni, who also attend the contest with the tape «3 Coeurs», Zem, star of the Algerian film "Hors-la-loi", and the actress and director Nadine Labaki.
