Pirates Latitudes: Spielberg's Pirates Adventure

Spielberg

Taking advantage of the tide that brought the success of Pirates of the Caribbean, Steven Spielberg Will Give His Own Insight On The World Of Sea Thieves with your new project: Pirates Latitudes.

Based on the eponymous novel by Michael Crichton (the Jurassic Park writer), Spielberg will direct the film, while his regular collaborator David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) will be in charge of writing the script.

As for the plot, the film will be set in the seventeenth century, in the seas near the Jamaican coast. There, a pirate ship will try to penetrate Port Royal, one of the most prosperous places of the time, while the entire crew is dedicated to hunting a Spanish galleon that is transporting a great treasure.

In the early 90's, the North American director had a first approach to the genre with the fantasy Hook. That reinterpretation of Peter Pan, with a magnificent Robin Williams, targeted a child audience. Perhaps with this tape, Spielberg has full freedom to capture his gaze on the pirate universe.
