No one is a prophet in their land, or so they say. According to a survey carried out by the Institute of Strategic Thought of the Complutense University of Madrid, more than half of Spaniards (58%) believe that the Spanish cinema it is "mediocre and uninteresting."
And perhaps the most outstanding thing (on a negative level, of course) is that 66% assured that their favorite cinematography is the U.S., more than anything because they go to the theaters "to have fun." How, the Spanish cinema sins of boring? Then there are contradictions: almost half consider that Spanish cinema is «for minorities» (47,6%), but at the same time 40% think that it has «a high level».
Not so much not so little, Cortez would say. It is true that most of the Spanish films that are categorized into "youth comedies" border on the mediocre and below as well, but high-quality films also appear from time to time that are later awarded all over the world. Or have we already forgotten to cite just some of the Amenábar, the Church, Almodóvar or Gay? The same is true of these surveys in most countries, not to be alarmed. But to aim higher too.
