Patti Smith to honor Amy Winehouse and Maria Schneider on her new album

Patti Smith

The tragic disappearance of Amy Winehouse At the age of 27, last July not only saddened his millions of fans around the world but also big names in the entertainment industry. Among them, Patti Smith, punk icon and author of 'Horses' (1980), considered one of the great albums in the history of music. In statements to the magazine Uncut, Patti Smith has advanced that in her new album there will be a song in tribute to Amy Winehouse:

“The little song for Amy appeared in the studio. We were at the Electric Lady Studio in New York writing other songs. I wrote a little poem for Amy when she died and my bassist Tony Shanahan wrote a melody. They both marry perfectly. ”, Says the punk's grandmother.

But that song in memory of the soul singer who died last summer will not be the only tribute that Patti Smith's new album will bring. The artist also wanted to remember actress Maria Schneider, known for her roles in films such as The Last Tango in Paris in which the actress starred alongside Marlon Brando. The actress passed away in February 2011 at the age of 58.

"We wrote a beautiful song for Maria Schneider, the actress who was a friend of mine in the 70s." The singer added that the two songs have turned out very well, as if they were "gifts."

In addition to a new album, Patti Smith is adapting her best-selling book "Just Kids" to the big screen. For this he will work with the renowned scriptwriter John Logan. In the book, the singer and writer recounts her relationship with the photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. "Just Kids" won the 2010 National Nonfiction Novel Book Award in the United States.
