The Beatles' original 'Abbey Road' collection up for auction

Abbey Road Beatles

Surely one of the most emblematic and well-known photos of the Beatles it is the one that illustrates the cover of the album 'Abbey Road' (1969), the one that showed the quartet crossing by the zebra crossing of the popular street of London. Ian Macmillan was the British photographer in charge of making the photo shoot of the legendary British band The Beatles in the late 1960s, of which six images were taken and that will soon all go up to auction together with the one used in the back cover of the album.

These photographs were taken exactly on August 8, 1969 by the photographer friend of John Lennon, the Scotsman lain macmillan (1938-2006), with his Hasselblad camera and who, climbing a ladder, interrupted the traffic of Abbey Road for ten minutes for the four Liverpool musicians to pass.

Of the six takes, number five was chosen for the famous cover, which ended up being one of the most emblematic in the history of contemporary music. Macmillan, as a photographer, took a series of 25 sets of these photographs which he sold shortly thereafter. However, most of the photos were purchased separately and the complete set was seldom seen again, until now that one of the owners of that complete set of these photos has decided to auction it off in the coming days. The sale will take place in Bloomsbury Auctions, in London, on November 21. The estimated price will be between 189.065 and 88.230 euros.
