Metallica y Lou Reed announced that their joint album will be released on October 31 and will be called 'Lulu'.
On the official website they explained that it is an album inspired by the expressionist writer Frank Wedekind, a German playwright, and particularly in his works Erdgeist (The Spirit of the Earth; 1895) and Die Büchse der Pandora (Pandora's Box; 1904).
The story tells what happens to a young dancer who has suffered sexual abuse, her romantic relationships and the vicissitudes of a life in which she knows success and also the most absolute wealth and poverty.
Lou Reed had composed the music and lyrics for a theatrical production in Berlin, but after meeting Metallica for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts in New York in 2009, «all parties involved knew they wanted to make music together«.
