Michael Haneke started a French stage of his cinema with the arrival of the new millennium, a period that includes the first half of this decade. The first French production to shoot was "Unknown Code" in 2000. A film with which he was once again present in the official section of the Cannes Festival.
In 2001 the director made "La pianista", a film that puts him in the orbit of international cinema. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, the best actor award for Benoît Magimel and the best actress award for Isabelle Huppert, and at the European Film Awards won the awards for best film, best screenplay and best actress, among many other awards.
His next film, "El tiempo del lobo" from 2003, was presented at the Cannes Film Festival out of competition, and at the Sitges Festival he received the award for best screenplay.
His 2005 film «Caché», the author's last French production to date, was another great success in terms of awards received, best director, FIPRESCI Award and Ecumenical Jury Award at the Cannes Film Festival that is so highly appreciated by the filmmaker. And again Haneke becomes the great winner of the European Film Awards by winning five awards including best film and best director.
In 2007 the director made a remake of his own movie «Funny Games» in United States. Rather than adapt his own work, what he does is copy it almost shot by shot in another language and with other actors.
Two years later he filmed "The White Ribbon", a German production that once again earned him a large number of awards. Highlight that you received the Palme d'Or and the FIPRESCI Award in Cannes, Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay at the European Film Academy Awards and the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
