Los Girasoles Ciegos, chosen by the Spanish Film Academy to compete for the Hollywood Oscar

This morning, the actress Belén Rueda has done the honors of discovering that the film chosen by the Spanish Film Academy to fight for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film has been Los Girasoles Ciegos by José Luis Cuerda.

This film has won a vote of the more than 1.000 existing scholars to the latest of Garci, May blood and from Gracia Querejeta, Seven pool tables French that also counts among its interpreters the actress Maribel Verdú.

Recall that Blind Sunflowers is an adaptation of two stories out of a total of four that contains the book of the deceased Alberto Mendez of the same name. This novel won the 2005 National Narrative Award and has been published in several countries.

The film tells us about the life of a family in the Spanish postwar period, where the husband (Javier Cámara) hides in a den of the marriage room so as not to be hunted by the Franco victors. His wife, Maribel Verdú, goes through many hardships and even more so when her son's new teacher, Raúl Arévalo in the role of a future priest (deacon) becomes obsessed with her.

Honestly, of the three chosen by the Academy I think it is the best option but I do not think this movie is to the taste of Hollywood Academics.

On January 22 we will know if Los Girasoles Ciegos passes the first cut of the Hollywood critics.
