'Little Venice (Shun Li and the poet)', investigating the Chinese mafias

Little Venice scene

Scene from Little Venice (Shun Li and the poet).

' Little Venice (Shun Li and the Poet) 'is a co-production between Italy and France directed by Andrea Segre that premiered in our country on October 26 and has pleasantly surprised us. In its interpretive cast, it has Rade Serbedzija, Zhao Tao, Marco Paolini, Roberto Citran and Giuseppe Battiston, among others.

The film, which has a script by Andrea Segre and Marco Pettenello, based on an argument by Andrea Segre, tells the story of Shun Li, who works in a textile factory on the outskirts of Rome. Suddenly, she is sent to Chioggia, a small town located on an island in the Venetian lagoon, to work as a waitress in a bar. Bepi, a Slavic fisherman nicknamed The Poet by his friends, has been a regular at the little bar for years. The meeting between the two will become a poetic escape from loneliness, a silent dialogue between two cultures that, although different, are not so distant.

The movie, whose soundtrack It is already in the pools of the European Film Awards, it tells us about Chinese immigrants, and the cultural shock that these immigrants suffer with the indigenous inhabitants of the countries to which they emigrate. A comparison that here has been very familiar to us, due to the affinity between Italy and Spain. AND It is precisely this factor that gives the film the sensation of everyday life.

Ultimately a pleasant film that the Italian director gives us, and that brings us closer to a modest world that is reluctant to show itself, always interesting because of how unknown it is, so a relaxed viewing is well worth it.
