Japan joins the countries that already have a representative for the Oscar and it does so by sending the tape "The Light Shines Only There."

"The Lights Shines Only There", or "soko nomi nite hikari kagayaku»As the film is titled in his language, it is the new work of the Japanese director mypo oh.

This film is the adaptation of the 1989 novel of the same name by yasushi sato, acclaimed writer who committed suicide a year after publishing this story.

«The Light Shines Only There»Is a romantic drama that tells the story of Tatsuo Sato who wanders aimlessly taking refuge in alcohol after leaving his job. One day he meets Takuji Oshiro whom he accompanies to his house where he lives with his sick father, his deranged mother and his older sister Chinatsu, a prostitute with a past as painful as Tatsuo's. From then on a great attraction is created between Tatsuo and Chinatsu.

With this film, Japan will seek to get its 16th nomination and thus try to get its fifth statuette. «Rashomon»(« Rashomôn ») in 1952,«Gate of hell»(« Jigokumon ») in 1955 and«Samurai, The Legend of Masushi»(Miyamoto Masushi) in 1956 they got the award when the nominations for this award did not yet exist.
