Jack White's 'Lazaretto': the best-selling vinyl of the last 20 years

lazaretto

'Lazaretto', the latest album by Jack White, has become the most successful album of 2014 in its vinyl format. And that's not all, because it became the best-selling album of the last 20 years, thanks to 60.000 copies sold in the US, according to SoundScan figures for Billboard magazine. According to the publication, which reviews the official figures for the North American market on a weekly basis, 'Lazaretto' has positioned itself ahead of Arctic Monkeys' “AM”, with 29.000 copies, the second best-selling vinyl this year, and also of “Random Access Memories »by Daft Punk, the most purchased in 2013.

Billboard goes back to Pearl Jam's 'Vitalogy' (1994) to find the most successful vinyl on the market in the last two decades.
According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), despite the progressive loss of strength of music recorded on physical media compared to digital, vinyl sales have experienced an increase in recent years in "key markets". Thus, the increase in the United Kingdom was 101 percent more than in 2012 and in the United States it was 32 percent compared to the previous year, linking six years of historical records. In 2013, a total of 6 million units were sold, representing 2 percent of total US album sales.

Let us remember that 'Lazaretto' is the second studio album by Jack White. It was released on June 10, 2014 by Third Man Records in collaboration with XL Recordings and Columbia Records. According to White, the work is inspired by a collection of stories, poems and songs that he wrote when he was 19 years old and found years later at home, he decided to work on them and the result was this album.
