Disney just announced it. The July 19, 2019 will be the day chosen for the premiere of the fifth installment of the saga, with Harrison Ford once again playing the adventurous hero with the hat and the whip, and Spielberg in the director's chair.
The veterans of the saga Kathleen Kennedy (now in charge of Lucasfilm) and Frank Marshall will once again take over the production, which is already generating much excitement. The names of the writers of this new film have not been made public. George Lucas produced and wrote the stories of the four previous installments, but his name has not appeared in the Walt Disney Studios press release. Hopefully, in the coming months, more details of the new film will be known.
The premiere of Indiana Jones 5 complicates that of another highly anticipated film, also produced by Disney, Inhumans, whose scheduled date, July 12 of that year, is very close and runs the risk of being in the background. We must also bear in mind that 2019 will be a very saturated year for Disney, with premieres of the importance of Captain Marvel, Infinity War II, Star Wars: Episode IX and The Incredibles 2.
Recall that the Indiana Jones saga is based on the Adventures of Archaeologist and Historian Dr. Henry Jones. The first film was produced in 1981 by George Lucas, all films have been directed by Steven Spielberg. After the 2012 purchase of Lucasfilm, Disney owns the rights. The first three films are framed in the 90s, while the last one so far, the fourth, was released in 2008. The characteristic soundtrack is composed by Joh Williams who, on the other hand, is another of the absences, along with George Lucas, from the Disney statement.
