"Il Divo", trailer for one of the best Italian films of the year

Today the Italian film opens Il Divo, one of the great rebellions of the year together with Gomorrah, directed by Paolo Sorrentino.

Il Divo it won the Special Jury Prize at the last Cannes Film Festival and also received five nominations for the European Film Awards.

Il Divo tells the story of the controversial Italian politician Giulio Andreott:

In Rome, at dawn, when everyone is sleeping, a man is awake. That man is Giulio Andreotti (Toni Servillo). He is awake because he has to work, write books, move in fashion circles, and last but not least to pray. Calm, cunning and inscrutable, Andreotti has been synonymous with power in Italy for more than forty years. In the early XNUMXs, this impassive but suggestive, ambiguous but reassuring man is poised to take on his seventh term as Prime Minister without arrogance and without humility. Andreotti is approaching seventy years old and is a gerontocrat who, with all the attributes of God, is not afraid of anyone and does not know the meaning of intimidation, since he is used to seeing it in the faces of all his interlocutors. His satisfaction is opaque, impalpable. For him, satisfaction is power, with which he maintains a symbiotic relationship. Power the way he likes it. Steadfast and unchanging, right from the start. It emerges unscathed from everything: from electoral battles, from terrorist massacres, from slanderous accusations. None of this touches him, nothing changes him. Until the Mafia, the most powerful counter-power in Italy, declared war on him. Then things changed. Even for the enigmatic, the immortal Andreotti.
