'How To Win At Checkers (Every Time)' by Thailand at the Oscars

Josh Kim's film 'How To Win At Checkers (Every Time)' is chosen by Thailand for the Oscar preselection for best film in a foreign language.

This first film has been a great success in the modest competitions through which it has passed, won the audience award at both the FilmOut San Diego and the VC FilmFest - Los Angeles Asia Pacific Film Festival.

How To Win At Checkers (Every Time)

This film so small it could make a niche among the nominees for the best foreign language film award, or at least pass the first cut, something that Thailand has not achieved in the country's 21 attempts in the preselection. And is that this drama touches the gay theme, which may have a lot of presence this year at the Hollywood Academy Awards and that may end up favoring this film that for the moment has gone unnoticed.

'How To Win At Checkers (Every Time)' tells the story of Oat, an 11-year-old boy who, after the death of his parents, moves with his little sister and older brother Ek to live with his aunt. Ek begins working in a bar for transvestites and prostitutes and begins to maintain a relationship with Jai, the son of a wealthy family, while he is still going to school.
