Gernika is the new work of director Koldo Serra, one of the most talented directors on the Spanish scene. It was more than demonstrated with his film Forest is shadows. Now he returns with his long-awaited film about the civil war, a project that has taken years of work.
The first thing that catches the attention of the film is its cast, which is spectacular: María Valverde, Bárbara Goenaga, Ingrid Garcia Jonsson, School Irene, James D'arcy, Jack davenport, Victor Clavijo, Julian Villagrán, and Alex Garcia.
Teresa (María Valverde), an editor of the Republican press office will clash with Henry (James D'Arcy), an American journalist in low hours who is covering the northern front. Teresa, courted by her boss, Vasyl (Jack Davenport), a Russian adviser to the Republican government, will be attracted to Henry's dormant idealism and will want to awaken in him the passion to tell the truth that was one day her only goal.
Regarding the plot, we hope it will be a film full of characters with conflicts and motivations that we hope will represent a story full of emotion. We are used to seeing films of this theme in our cinema. But I am sure that the director will have given it a narrative pulse and tension that are not typical of our cinema. As all moviegoers hope, we always give quality Spanish cinema a chance.
I really like the cast of this movie and this trailer gives me a very good feeling. I hope this is one of the best movies of this year. The work behind it is tremendous and it shows.
I say no more and leave the trailer here. Unfortunately it is the teaser. I hope that later they will offer us material of longer duration.
