From BAFICI, criticism of "The Lollipop Generation"

lollipop

In the section that the BAFICI named "Nocturna", one knows that one will come across things of dubious ends, as well as, perhaps, eschatological or sadistic images. Or perhaps a caress to the most bizarre, or an exploitation of the best kept sexual aspects of society (or whatever is outside of it).

And a nice disappointment I ate on Saturday morning with the film «The Lollipop Generation«. Canadian film directed by GB Jones. A woman who was one of the promoters of the anarcho sexual movement accompanying the beginnings of Bruce LaBruce, in his eagerness to break with everything, dissatisfied with everything, giving rise to the uprising queer punk movement of the late 80s. This film is Jones' first long-shaped scream, where through images captured in Super 8 for several years (13!), He tells the story of a teenage girl who ran away from her home, who would roam the nameless streets of a neighborhood without a name. In the words of the festival organizers themselves, the film goes through «a journey through epileptic shots of documentary ugliness that go directly to the origin and essence of underground anarcosexual cinema, duplicating the first Warhol in visual dirt ».

A film that is difficult to watch, especially if you are in the last seat, and the subtitles are practically inaccessible. Despite this, with few dialogues in easily understandable English, the film works on the image / sound relationship from a very interesting place, by dislocating the concordance between both levels, and presenting us at various times a dialogue between mouths that, in plain sight , do not move.

A work that is worth seeing if you are a friend of the subject, and of those «other origins». Personally, I have found the homosexual exhibition (which abounds) less dirty than the plot itself.
