From the BAFICI, criticism of "Mami I love you"

I love you mommy

Chile It surprises us with a new cinema, with an experimental cinema, with an intimate cinema that repeats in many aspects the formulas of neighboring nations, inevitably falling into a dark pit of difficulties, in many aspects.

I love you mommy is the thesis work of a very young director, called Elisa eliash, who also wrote the script. The film, as she presented it at the beginning of the screening, is the result of a search for experimentation with technical materials, putting them at the service of the story. And from this point of view, I must congratulate the project, since from the technical experimentation, as well as the work of photography in order to delve into the different textures of the scenery, and similar resources, it has been magnificent. He has displayed great virtuosity in his capacity for technical use to achieve both a sensation in the viewer, when framing elements such as a towel, a mirror, a stone, and even in the work from the point of view of the characters, and the way this is portrayed.

Now, as far as the argument is concerned, personally I consider that it is missing one of the two legs on which a story should stand. There is a story that is not history, there is a story carried by the characters, but that does not end up being a story either. There is a message that, if Eliash was clear about it, I don't think he could have reflected it with such clarity. Now, I do not want this to be understood as a blatant criticism, but rather a way of appreciating what is narrated. I don't think it's a bad movie, but rather a difficult movie to watch. The very type of film that can be seen at Festivals like this one, and which has delighted the jurors of the same, according to a representative said at the beginning of the screening.

I think the place that this film occupies in the Festival is interesting, insofar as it is understood that the degree of openness that is being given to experimental films, and very inexperienced debutants, although with talent, is such that it reflects the assessment that before the really independent cinema, and new, really new, it's a lot. I really value it as much as a spectator, as a future scriptwriter, since the site given to filmmakers who debut in this very difficult world of the film industry is very valuable.
