The 90s were very busy for Roman Polanski, although this did not mean that he premiered many films, since he dedicated himself to other projects such as theater or writing his autobiography. There were three productions that reached the screen by the filmmaker in this decade "Tess", "Pirates" and "Fenético".
In 1980 Polanski finally released "Tess", a film that shot in France in 1978, after almost two years of hard post-production. The co-production between France and the United Kingdom won the Oscars for photography, artistic direction and costumes of six nominations, with the Golden Globe for best foreign film and with the César awards for best film, director and photography.
A year later, before starting his next big screen project, Polanski directs and performs the play “Amadeus” in Poland, with which he achieved great success with both critics and the public.
In 1984 his autobiography came to light with the title "Roman by Polanski"
In 1985 the director filming begins in Tunisia, the Seychelles and Malta of his next film that would premiere the following year, "Pirates." The film earned an Oscar nomination for best costume.
In 1988 he premiered “Frenético”, a American production shot in France. A very interesting film but one that fails in its too commercial ending.
That same year directs the play "La Metamorfosis", Stephen Berkoff's adaptation of Kafka's famous novel.
Warner Bros. rejects his project "The teacher and Margarita”Due to the large budget that Polanski presents, this blockbuster of Mikhail Bulgakov's fantasy novel would have been his most ambitious film. This movie has never been made to date.
