Enrique González Macho becomes the 13th President of the Spanish Film Academy

This morning the academics had an appointment at the Spanish Film Academy to decide who would be the new President of our Academy, if the veteran director Bigas Luna or the also veteran producer, distributor and exhibitor. Enrique González Male, but it seems that the vast majority of our film academics were partying on Saturday night because they have only voted 366 of the 966 who have the right to vote, that is, only 1 out of 3 has voted. A total lack of respect for their colleagues and what the Spanish Film Academy itself represents.

Enrique González Macho has won by an absolute majority, obtaining a total of 256 votes, while Bigas Luna has had to settle for 101.

His team includes two women as vice presidents. The actress from San Sebastián, Marta Etura and the Catalan director Judith Colell.

Hopefully Enrique González will follow in the footsteps of Álex de la Iglesia, who has been the best President the Academy has had in a long time.
