Sad news for the film world: French director Pierre Granier-Deferre, one of the leading figures of French cinema in the 60s and 70s, passed away. The filmmaker was 80 years old.
Granier-Deferre directed the main figures of his country's cinema, including Philippe Noiret, Alain Delon, Jean Gabin and Lino Ventura. Some of his key works were "Le train" (1973) and "L'étoile du Nord" (1982), with which he won a prize Cesar, the greatest of French cinema.
The filmmaker died on Friday night, after a long illness that kept him confined in a Paris hospital for the last time. RIP.
