Damn Yankees returns from the hand of Carrey and Gyllenhaal

The musical genre has garnered several successes and applause throughout this last period, so Hollywood producers do not hesitate much when it comes to betting on some sung and danced number, and much more if it is remakes of works that in another time they were consecrated as successful. Repeating formulas is the mechanism that the North American film industry has decided to opt for, and for now, it is not doing too badly either.

And the people of New line cinema is not far behind in this race to sign good films, and has hired Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal to star in a remake of the classic «Damn Yankees », directed by George Abbott and Stanley Donen in 1958.

The libretto premiered at Boradway in '55, winning seven Tony Awards, and hitting the big screen three years later. The story centers on Joe Boyd, passionate about the sport, and even more so about his favorite baseball team. His crazy love is such that he ends up making a pact with the devil so that his favorite team will lose his hair.

In this new version, it will be Gyllenhaal who plays Boyd, and Carrey will do nothing more and nothing less than the role of the Devil. It will be interesting, since for both actors it is the first time they have ventured into the musical genre. And in Jim's case, I don't think anything will go wrong.
