The protagonist and her boyfriend are attacked by a group of thugs who destroy them, literally killing the boy, and leaving her in a coma for three weeks. A resentful but fearful woman is the one who results from what happened, and who makes explicit that she is no longer what she was, that she could not go back to being what she was, that now there is a stranger inside her, who is the one who dominates. To feel more protected, she gets a gun illegally on the black market, and carries it in her purse day and night. The New York that lived before is not the same that lives now, because what happened to him opened his eyes, and showed him the true insecurity of "the safest city in the world." And the woman begins to defend herself. To those who attack her, she responds with a few shots, making justice by own hand. And this is precisely what is put on the table of the debate, since she, in these things that happen in the movies, begins to relate to a policeman who discovers her in her cause, although he does not tell her. Therefore, the contradiction can be seen in the face, remaining as spectators on the edge of a doubt that is difficult to resolve. And it is that legality limits him in his actions, allowing high-caliber criminals to go free. But the justice by her own hand that the woman carries out is illegal, although she achieves the victory that by the fair ways would not be obtained.
Neil Jordan has the ability to show you both sides of the coin, and push you to the limit of the indefinable. Because one is left without being able to ascertain whether one or the other is the correct side.
Film that I recommend, whole and deep, deep and absolute. A site that many directors should be able to reach.
