I confess that I have a weakness for Trueba. Yesterday they were showing Two Much on television, and I think he is a genius making entertainment films. He masters the plot language, grabs the viewer and has a measured tempo, which causes no one to get bored when they go to see his films.
But lately there is little lavish. And the thing is, we hadn't heard from him for a long time. Oscar winner for belle epoque, goes back behind the cameras to shoot «The victory dance«, A love story based on the book of Antonio Skarmeta.
Trueba has gone to Chile to shoot with big names on the Latin American scene. Ricardo Darín, Abel Ayala, Miranda Bodenhfer and our Ariadna Gil, -his brother's wife David, that is, his sister-in-law. Darín returns to incarnate a rogue, as in Nine Queens; this time he's a bank robber trying to get his family back. The plot takes place at the time of the arrival of democracy in Chile. And most of the filming will take place there too.
Almost this shoot will last three months, whose premiere will foreseeably take a little longer to arrive. We will have to wait until the end of 2009 to see this interesting story, which, knowing the pedigree of verbatim, it looks like it will be a sure success.
