Today, within the section 'Cinema and education', our recommendation is on Gus Van Sant's film «Discovering Forrester«. For those of you who follow this section, you will remember that we recently commented on another of his films, «Elephant«, That everything is said, it impacted me much more than the film in question because of the devastating nature of its plot.

'Discovering Forrester' is a film directed by Gus Van Sant, as we have already said, that features a script by Mike Rich and an artistic roster comprised of: Sean Connery, Rob Brown, F. Murray Abraham, Anna Paquin, Busta Rhymes, April Grace, Michael Pitt, Michael Nouri, Richard Easton, Glenn Fitzgerald, Stephanie Berry, Matt Damon, and Lil Zane.

Its synopsis does not feature Forrester, known in his neighborhood for being a loner, a man whose mystery and eccentricity approach almost mythical limits. When Jamal, a prominent African-American student and athlete, manages to sneak into their apartment with a portfolio full of his literary works, they both unexpectedly get something in return.

A movie that you will like especially because of the lots of interesting philosophical and literary conversations, with a global message of pure improvement, as we have seen in other films. On this occasion, by the hand of a writer voluntarily cornered in his house and a young promise of letters that was yet to be discovered.

At times it recalls the essence of the film "The Club of Dead Poets", since both share that pedagogy, that comforting message and that optimism that any teacher would like their students to feel. The funny thing about the movie is that Forrester learns from Jamal in certain ways and Jamal learns from Forrester in others. But both are completed and necessary. Without meeting, their lives would never have taken the course they did, especially Jamal's. An exciting ending, and that we are not going to reveal to you.
