Young Holliday Grainger and Jeremy Irvine star in "Great Expectations."
The novel 'Big hopes' by Charles Dickens has been adapted into a film by screenwriter David Nicholls and directed by Mike Newell, running the artistic part of the hand of: Jeremy Irvine (Pip), Helena Bonham Carter (Miss Havisham), Ralph Fiennes (Magwitch), Holliday Grainger (Estella), Robbie Coltrane (Jaggers), Ewen Bremner (Wemmick), Jason Flemyng (Joe Gargery) and Sally Hawkins (Miss Joe), among others.
In "Great Expectations", the young orphan Pip has a chance to overcome his humble origins thanks to a mysterious benefactor. Having moved as a gentleman to a London dominated by social stratifications, Pip will use his new position to achieve the beautiful Estella, a spoiled heiress whom he has loved since childhood. However, the shocking truth behind the great fortune will unleash devastating consequences for all that Pip holds dear.
The truth is that the plot of 'Great Expectations' is so good that Dickens already puts a great contribution to make the film a success. If we add to this Masterful performances such as Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes, the artwork is insured. Also worthy of special mention is the film's music, the setting, as well as the costume design and makeup, which just gave the film the final push.
If we must say something negative about the film, it is that perhaps its footage is too long and, therefore, the last part of the film is sped up to try to tell all the details not revealed until then of the plot. With it and everything, it does not cease to be a good movie that will catch you in its two hours of footage and that you should not get lost.
