Apple complies with European regulations on purchase returns

Apple iTunes

Abiding by European regulations, Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), has implemented since January 2015 a new refund policy for its transactions, which allows the return to its customers of all content purchased through iTunes, AppStore and iBooks within a period of 14 days. This policy will be applicable to all its customers in the European Union, and will be valid if the consumer does not deliberately download an app or a song to one of their devices. This policy also does not apply to any app or song that has been given away through iTunes.

Apple has not released this information directly, but the German press reported the novelty of the new 'right of reimbursement' reported during the last week. Prior to this change, Apple allowed users to cancel a transaction on their account up to the point when the shipment was made. But in the case of digital content, such as apps and songs, they are downloaded automatically, in this type of transaction purchases were closed once the password was entered to authorize the transaction.

This change has come after the new regulations on Consumer Rights of the European Union, legislation that entered into force since last June. The European standard indicates, among other changes, that merchants should be more aware of fairer return policies and calls for the return period to be extended to two weeks.
