'After May', a different and successful proposal by Olivier Assayas

After may

One of the scenes from the French film 'After May'

'After May', written and directed by Olivier Assayas offers us a totally new and revealing perspective through a journey through a landscape that was also believed to be lost. To reinforce this, Assayas has had the cast composed of: Clément Métayer (Gilles), Lola Créton (Christine) and Félix Armand (Alain), among others.

'After May' places us in Paris, at the beginning of the 70s. Gilles, a young student, is immersed in the political and creative effervescence of the time. Like his peers, he is torn between radical commitment and his most personal aspirations. Amorous encounters and artistic discoveries will lead Gilles and his friends first to Italy and later to London. Throughout this vital journey they will be forced to make crucial decisions to find their place in a turbulent time.

The tone of 'After May' is ironic and affectionate at the same time, but not forgiving and therefore the experiences told in the Assayas story seem emotionally true and lived. For that reason, and because it is a job well done and with an acute evocation of her period, both in her eyes and in her attitude.

Thus, Assayas once again demonstrates his talent behind the camera, a camera that moves between young bodies like an invisible friend, and his somewhat disorderly narration is driven by fidelity to the sensation rather than by the machinery of the plot. It is so successful that instead of seeing the story, you begin to feel it, it surrounds you. Do not miss it!
