Apparently, the Italian critics did not like it very much «To Rome With Love«, The new film by Woody Allen made in the capital of that country: the main Italian newspapers agreed that the film is only a "succession of topics from the most picturesque Italy."
In that sense, Paolo Mereghetti, from Corriere della Serra, commented that:
There is too much and too little. Four episodes and nothing really surprising, just some good jokes, but the genius doesn't shine through. "
Meanwhile, La Repubblica's Francesco Merlo said it would be understandable for viewers to "wrinkle their noses" after seeing what Sllen has done. In turn, the newspaper Il Messagero described the film as "small and mediocre" and the newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano described it as "the capital of common places."
This new film by the New York director tells the story of several people in Italy - some Americans, some Italians, some residents, some visitors - and the romances, adventures and troubles in which they find themselves involved. Jesse Eisenber stars as Alec Baldwin's son and Greta Gerwig's boyfriend, who invites her best friend (Ellen Page) to visit Rome after she broke off a relationship. Penelope Cruz will put herself in the shoes of a prostitute and Robert Benigni in that of a well-known TV journalist. Allen also stars in the film.
