La film "Uncle Boonmee Remembers Their Past Lives" by Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul opens this Friday on a limited basis.
This film was the winner of the Palme d'Or at the last edition of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Critics' Award at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival. It has also been sold to various countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Portugal and Canada, among others.
Uncle Boonmee… is a journey into the myths and legends of the jungle, a fable about reincarnation and the transmigration of souls. Uncle Boonmee suffers from acute kidney failure so he decides to end his days in the fields, among his own. Surprisingly, the ghosts of his deceased wife and missing son appear to him and take him under their wings.
