The Band drummer Levon Helm dies

American folk-rock musician levon helm, passed away cancer at age 71. Levon was a drummer and vocalist in many songs of the legendary group The Band, which was in force for a decade, between 1965 and 1976. He stood out for his instrumental versatility, since he also played mandolin and guitar, in addition to having a very southern style as a singer.

The Band was called that because it accompanied many other artists and became famous for its work with Bob Dylan. However, the group also had several hits in their own right, including "The Weight" (listed in Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time), "Rag Mama Rag", "Up on Cripple Creek" and " The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down ”, many of them sung by Helm.

The musician also ventured into film, with roles in films such as Coal Miner's Daughter, End of the Line and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, written by Mexican Guillermo Arriaga and directed by its protagonist, Tommy Lee Jones.
