Nikita Mikhalkov to represent Russia for the sixth time at the Oscars, this time with 'Solnechnyy udar'.
Strictly, the director has been present in the Oscar preselection for best film in a foreign language on five occasions, counting this year, since his film 'The Siberian Barber' ('Sibirskij tsiryulnik') was disqualified in 1998.
Russia trusts Nikita Mikhalkov once again, director who has given him three of the six nominations the country has had since the Soviet Union dissolved and the only statuette the country has. Russia won the Oscar for best foreign film in 1995 for 'Burned by the sun' ('Utomlyonnye solntsem').

Set in a prisoner of war camp in November 1920, during the Crimean War, 'Solnechnyy udar' tells the story of some men who do not seem aware of their imminent death with the arrival of Red Army Officers. A captain tries to understand how the Russian Empire has collapsed and whose fault it was.
