After seven years of record silence, the vocalist Najwa Nimri and the producer Carlos Jean they warm up the engines of the new stage of their joint musical project, najwajean, with an electronic album and a sound that will try to escape from the conventions and of which we already heard the first single «Waiting». «I admit that at some point I have felt a bit seduced by success and I have not been faithful to my principles, but if you have a lot of people behind you, the survival instinct comes out and you work based on what the public asks. On the other hand, the majority of Spanish music has never taken risks ”, comments Carlos Jean.
Of his partner, precisely, what stands out the most is his taste for risk. "Whenever you do something, you have to listen to it," she says about the author of "Where the volcanoes roar" (2012) or "The last primate" (2010), albums released alone during the Najwajean break. She, for her part, highlights "the titanic effort" that her "partner" has made during this time apart to raise their company. “But what I like the most is the quality of his sound and the bass, his balls when producing. It has a punch that is not from this planet, "he says.
Both claim that chemistry continues to flow after so many years involved in their "busy parallel lives." The excuse to meet again was in the concert offered last summer as a tribute that the Madrid festival Día de la Música paid to the 25 years of life of Subterfuge, its first label. They started talking about this lap, although things didn't pick up speed until recently they got to the kind of sound they were looking for, what Nimri calls "the what and the how."
His new album, still untitled and expected for autumn, will be a compendium of versions of old songs that, in the middle of their development, become something more current, in addition to unreleased songs such as "Wanting", the first preview, in which a return to electronics is perceived.
