Pfor the third time Malaysia will seek the Oscar nomination for best film in non-English language, this time the chosen one is 'Men Who Save the World', 'Lelaki Harapan Dunia' in its original title.
This new film by Liew Seng Tat has had a long journey through competitions around the world, as they are the Toronto Festival, the Vancouver Festival, the Locarno Festival or the Singapore Festival, for example the most prominent.
Also 'Men Who Save the World' was one of the great winners of the 27th edition of the Malaysian Festival, proclaiming itself the winner in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, Best Story, Best Sound Editing, and Best Child Actor up to thirteen nominations.
Malaysia had only been nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film twice, in 2004 presented the tape 'The Princess of Mount Ledang' ('Puteri Gunung Ledang') by Saw Teong Hin and in 2012 'Bunohan' by Dain Said. Neither of these two films got the nomination, not even making the first cut.
The comedy 'Men Who Save the World' features the story of an African immigrant who squats in a dilapidated house and is taken for a ghost by his neighbors, which creates chaos in the peculiar Malay village where it occurs.
