Lucia and sex, in "XXY"

This week I premiere in Argentina and will soon do so in Spain and other European countries: I am referring to Lucía Puenzo's debut film, "XXY", which obtained the prize of the International Critics' Week at the recent Cannes festival. The film, with an introspective and intimate character, like everything that now calls itself New Argentine Cinema, raises the dichotomy of a hermaphroditic adolescent and the vigilance of her parents for trying to hide or not such a condition from society.

Puenzo, daughter of the famous Luis Puenzo -winner of a Oscar for 'La Historia Oficial' in 1985-, he is not afraid to deepen his gaze on the psychology of his protagonists, something that detracts from his narrative rhythm but makes the film a small discovery due to its daring. In the cast, Inés Sefrón - who despite being 23 years old was able to compose a girl of 15 with great success -, Martín Piroyansky, another young man with a great future in Argentine cinema, and the ever-present Ricardo Darín, who despite that lately his greatest success is 'playing Darín', he gives an emotional touch to the realization.

Based on a story by the writer Sergio Bizzio, Lucía Puenzo's partner, "XXY" is an uncomfortable film, which speaks of prejudices and other people's glances, but also shows - uselessly - how the real victims feel. Sexuality, as a fundamental character trait that shapes a person, is portrayed with class in "XXY", which is recommended despite not being a film aimed at the mass.
