Less than a week ago a new edition of the French festival in Cannes has ended, the greatest exponent of the festival circuit around the world. As a result, we will make a review of all the winners and the big surprises (and disappointments) of the show, according to the main media that were present there.

There were many winners, a total of 9 out of 20, but the big winner of the event was the Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke, with his film The White Ribbon, which won the Palme d'Or for best film for his portrait of German society and the origin of German fascism, years before the outbreak of the First World War.

French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg earned Best Female Performance for her role in Antichrist, the new one from Lars Von Trier; while his colleague Christoph Waltz did the same for Inglourious Basterdsby Tarantino. The Filipino Brilliant Mendoza raised the statuette of best director for kinatay; Mei Feng, for her work as a screenwriter on Spring Fever, and the jury award was shared between the British Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank) and the talented Park Chan-Wook (thirst).

In general, the sample had a positive balance and the level of the films that were screened was quite even. This year, proving that Cannes is synonymous with cinema, sThey could see the new films of established directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Sam Raimi, Ang Lee and Ken Loach; from the always original Asians Park Chan-wook, Hong Sang-soo, and Bong Joon-ho; the controversial and controversial Gaspar Noé and Lars Von Trier; and the Spanish Pedro Almodóvar and Isabel Coixet.
