The well-known lead singer of the rock band Linkin Park, Chester Bennington, died this Thursday at a residence near Los Angeles, in Palos Verdes Estates. Everything indicates that it was a suicide.
He was 41 years old and left six children, the result of his two marriages. The problems with alcohol and drugs accompanied him throughout many years of his life. On more than one occasion he had admitted planning his suicide.
A dark journey inside
Those who knew him well, knew that something was wrong with Chester's mind, and that there seemed to be no possible cure. The same lyrics that Bennington composed for Linkin Park, already seemed full of melancholy, disgust for everything around him, and requests for help.
The pain that has always accompanied him comes from a bitter situation that he suffered when he was little. By his own admission, over the course of six years he suffered continuous rapes by a childhood friend, years older than him.
This traumatic experience has marked his entire life. Not only did the wound not heal, it grew larger over time. Neither drugs, nor alcohol, nor his hectic sex life, have managed to alleviate the pain.
In one of his songs, somewhere I BelongOn the second Linkin Park album, it was said: «I want to leave behind the pain that I've felt for so long, I want to heal, I want to feel what I never thought was real.
A successful track record

After 17 years on stage, Linkin Park has sold more than 70 million records. Chester Bennington's voice conveyed the sensation of a person at the limit of his life, unable to bear the weight of his existence, exhausted, defeated, without the desire to fight or the strength to feel.
