Hungary has announced that the film that will send the Oscars to compete for the award of best foreign language film will be «Le Grand Cahier«.

If a few days ago Romania announced that it was sending to the Oscars «Child's Pose», winner of the Best Film Award at the last edition of the Berlinale, now it is Hungary that is betting on the winner of a great European festival «Le Grand Cahier» , in this case winner of the Karlovy Vary Festival.

«Le Grand Cahier", «The Notebook»In its American title, it is directed by János Szász and is the adaptation of the homonymous novel by Kristof exhausts for which the author received the French Literature Prize in 1986.

The film tells the story of two boys, twin brothers, who go to live with their grandmother shortly before the end of the Second World War, there they will lose their innocence due to the death, violence and destruction that surrounds them. Each night the brothers will write their experiences in their notebooks.

Hungary has been nominated for Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film up to eight times and was the winner once for the film "Mephisto", although it has not been nominated in more than two decades, since the fall of communism in 1989.
