"Eight Basque surnames" is one of the most successful Spanish films of all time, and undoubtedly one of the most popular in recent years. Its sequel, "Eight Catalan surnames", also triumphed, both at the box office and critically, so no wonder a third party has already been thought.
Borja Cobeaga, the scriptwriter of the saga, has confirmed in an interview in the Diario Vasco that there will be at least a third installment, but it is not clear when:
Yes there will be a third part, but I don't know when. The success of 'Eight Basque surnames' caught me filming 'Negociador' and I was in a bubble. With the Catalans it was all very fast because you had to get it out as soon as possible. But I would like to remove the thorn that the second part did not have the freshness of the first. I don't know when it will be done, but since we do it with the same production company as 'Super López', they are letting us finish this first before raising third parties.
The third of «Eight Basque surnames»
Many people have been doing pools for a long time on where will the surnames be from if there is a third party, and a large part of them are committed to focusing on Galicia, although Cobeaga is not very clear about it:
Everyone tells us that the next one is Galicia, but if we want to regain the freshness of the first one, that's how we start badly (laughs).
It is clear that there is still time to see the new installment of "Eight Basque surnames", but knowing that it is going to take place is great news. It is certainly a film with a very cool script, hilarious, that in its second part it knew how to maintain the level and that it has highly talented scriptwriters who, if they set out to do so, will write a new hit.
