Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Thomas Anderson, a new project

After his collaboration in »Pozos de ambición», Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis wanted to repeat project together. For this they have put themselves into it, with what will be their next project, with a script by PT Anderson himself.

This project has undergone a kind of auction, to find the highest bidder. In a bid that they say has been unprecedented, Focus Features has beaten Fox Searchlight.

Very few details of this project are known, except that it will be set in the London fashion world of the 50s. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2017, and could be released in late 2017 to enter the Oscar race.

The film would feature an initial budget of 35 million dollars, thanks to the collaborative agreement with Universal, in what is called a “negative pick up deal”, a contract that is used sometimes, by which the studio agrees to buy the film for a specific amount and on a specific date, guaranteeing part or the entire investment required by the independent production company, which in this case is Focus Features.

While the money arrives, the independent producer has to finance itself autonomously, taking charge of the risks that the production may have, the possible cost overruns, etc., but always having the creative control of the entire project. This formula is very different from when a “PFD” contract is signed, named after the acronym production, financing and distribution, in which the studio is in charge of the management, without risk for the producer, which will only charge for management actions .

Recall that this project would be Daniel Day-Lewis' first job after winning the Oscar for Best Actor for 'Lincoln' , which was his third statuette after those obtained with 'My left foot' and the aforementioned 'Wells of ambition'.

More prolific, Paul Thomas Anderson has alternated his projects in the world of video clips, with some other titles for the big screen, such as "Pure Vice", his last film to date.

The movie would be set in the world of London haute couture, in the 1950 decade.
