Srdan Golubovic's "Circles" to represent Serbia at Oscars

Circles

Serbia joins the small list of countries that have already announced the film that will represent them in the Oscar this year. The lucky one is "Circles" by Srdan Golubovic.

The fourteen-member Serbian selection committee was to choose the Golubović or “Death of a Man in the Balkans” by Miroslav Momcilovic. Finally the result was nine to five for the first.

Serbia will seek to pass the two cuts of the preselection to Best Foreign Language Film and finally get the nomination with this film that has already been awarded in prestigious competitions such as Berlin, where he won the Ecumenical Prize or the Sundance, where he won the Jury Prize in the World Cinema section.

If he managed to reach the final gala of the Oscars, it would be the first time that Serbia was present at the Academy Awards, something Golubovic himself tried in 2007 with "The Trap."

«Circles»It is a cross story film based on an event from the Bosnian War, a Serbian soldier who was killed by his own comrades for defending a Muslim friend. The film takes this premise to tell us the repercussions of this event twelve years later.
