Bruce Springsteen's 'Born to Run' manuscript up for auction

A handwritten draft with the handwriting of 'Born To Run', one of the biggest hits of Bruce Springsteen, will be offered for sale at an auction in early December in New York City. The American musician was only twenty-six years old when he composed the lyrics for 'Born To Run' in 1975, which he wrote on a simple sheet of paper without imagining that it would become the great song that would give its name to the album with which he would rise to fame.

Bruce Springsteen recalled this experience revealing: “I was living at that time in a small house in West Long Branch, in New Jersey. One day I was playing my guitar in bed and imagining some ideas in my head to use in my songs when suddenly the words 'Born to run' came to my mind. At first I thought it was the name of a movie or something that I had already seen in an advertisement. I liked the phrase because it suggests something epic, like a movie drama ».

The important house Sotheby's This manuscript will be auctioned on December 5 and it is estimated that the sale value will reach between 70 thousand and 100 thousand dollars. The auction house itself revealed that the handwritten document had been part of the collection of former Springsteen manager Mike Appel. It also emerged that most of the lines in this version dating from 1974 apparently had not been published or recorded. However, the manuscript does include "An almost perfected chorus".
